Brendan Rodgers has praised Benjamin Siegrist for his professionalism as he looks set to leave Celtic. The Swiss goalkeeper is set to sign for Neil Lennon’s Rapid Bucharest as he looks to kickstart his career.
Speaking to Record Sport, Rodgers confirmed that the 32-year-old would be moving on but made sure to praise the exemplary work from the goalkeeper.
“It’s fair to say that with Benji, he’ll be looking to move on. He’s been a really professional guy. His spirit, he’d done well at United and come into Celtic and maybe wanted to play more. When he didn’t, and I can only speak for my year with him, he was exemplary.
“His professionalism, everything about him was first class. And when I spoke last season, we thought that probably for him, in this part of his career, he needed to go and play. So I believe that will be the case and he will move on.”
Siegrist joined Celtic as a free agent following the expiry of his deal at Dundee United. The goalkeeper deputised to Joe Hart for two years, working alongside Scott Bain and Stevie Woods to keep the Englishman in the best possible shape to challenge for silverware. The reaction from Siegrist at the Cup Final showed that he was a top professional and loved being at the club, even if his game time was limited.
Celtic have signed Kasper Schmeichel and Sinisalo to act as the first and second choice goalkeepers at the club with Bain acting as the third pick. Siegrist will look to head up the goalkeeping department with Lennon in Romania.
I can’t believe this crock of crap from BR…
The guy was obviously falling way short of requirements ( that’s me being kind ) both on and off the field…as witnessed by his horrendous lack of game time.
This signing will remain a huge mystery…but I’m delighted that he’s gone.
As for BR…
