HELSINGBORGS have this morning signed Celtic midfielder Kundai Benyu on a season long loan.

Benyu watched Celtic’s 2017 Scottish Cup Final win over Aberdeen on television, knowing that Brendan Rodgers was interested in signing him from Ipswich, despite his having being out on loan that season.

He got a few games for Celtic early the next season, including a game down at Rugby Park, but he looked nowhere near ready to make an impact. He was then loaned out to Oldham Athletic where he managed only 4 appearances before returning to the Scottish champions.

Benyu, who has two international caps for Zimbabwe, will now join the Swedish outfit for the start of their season – summer football – and he’ll be there until January next year.

“It’s a good opportunity for me to play first team football.

“I have a very good feeling. It feels like a good opportunity for me to continuously play A-team football at a high level,” Benyu said.

“My team-mate in Celtic, Mikael Lustig, told me that Helsingborgs is a big club and that this was a good opportunity for me so I wanted to come here from the moment I heard about the interest.

“I have heard that the club has good supporters so I look forward to impressing them and showing what I can.”
