It’s more than just luck, it’s bias plain and simple…

The Rangers have managed to extend their run of not conceding a penalty in the league to something like 73 games. It’s now been nigh on two full years since a referee was brave enough to point to the spot in favour of any opposition facing the latest Ibrox club.

That’s despite a good chunk of that run being during the VAR era, where every infringement is magnified ten fold.

In Sunday’s clash with Motherwell the Ibrox side were yet again the beneficiaries of yet more leniency by the officials on the field and behind the scenes in the VAR room. The officials all ‘failed’ yet again to spot a tug on a Motherwell player as he was about to hit a shot on goal in the penalty area.

It was as clear as day; you can maybe forgive the on field referee for missing it amidst all the bodies in the crowded box, but why did VAR not intervene? It would’ve took a few seconds to deem it a punishable offence.

They after all intervened when it happened to Connor Goldson in the box at Ibrox when theRangers were one nil down in the dying embers of a game against Hearts at Ibrox. It also happened recently at Pittodrie when they were one nil down and received yet another chance from the spot with time ticking away, see the pattern?

That’s all fair and well, it is a penalty after all by the laws of the game, but why didn’t Motherwell have the backing of those such laws? Or Aberdeen in the League Cup final also against the Ibrox side?

It’s a question that is worth asking, but it always falls on deaf ears. Why don’t the SMSM want to debate this issue? I think we all know why.

Dermot Gallagher yesterday said on Sky Sports that theRangers were ‘lucky’ to have got away with conceding a penalty at Fir Park. Lucky? It’s nothing to do with luck. It’s a clear bias in favour of the Ibrox side. Everyone knows it, it’s just a shame no one wants to talk about it.

It’s astonishing that all the other clubs in the Scottish Premiership aren’t prepared to call this out once and for all.
