RYAN CHRISTIE has been nominated for the Scotland National Team Player of the Year accolade for 2020. The Celtic midfielder scored the goal that got Scotland on their way to qualification for the Euros in Serbia and has been rewarded with his fine performances with a place on the shortlist.
Christie is joined by David Marshall, Declan Gallagher and Lyndon Dykes in the final four. The 25-year-old midfielder had two goals and two assists in the qualifiers for the Euros. He faces stiff competition as it was David Marshall’s save that sealed passage to the group stages, ending a 22-year-wait for Scotland’s participation in a major finals. Gallagher and Dykes have been impressive newcomers to the Scotland set up as Steve Clarke has managed to get his stamp on the team.
The ex-Inverness CT midfielder will be hoping to be reinstated to the starting XI for Celtic’s Scottish Cup Final clash with Hearts on Sunday. The form of David Turnbull relegated Christie to the bench in an attacking midfield position but he may still get a game on the right of midfield, if Lennon decides against starting Jeremie Frimpong in an advanced role.
