Scales deal is well deserved but recruitment still required

Liam Scales well worthy of his new deal, but a new centre back is still required in the summer…

Liam Scales continued his miraculous rise this season by today signing a four year contract extension to his current deal which means he’s now tied to the club until at least 2028.

That is wonderful news for the Irishman and it’s a testament to the hard work and commitment he’s put in when it looked as if he was surplus to requirements last year.

No one can grudge Liam his new deal, he’s earned it on his own merit and it’s a reward for his hard work as well as his ability. Although there will be some critics who will be foaming at the mouth at the decision to extend Liam’s stay at the club.

However, that doesn’t mean that we can sleep at the wheel where transfers are concerned and particularly when it comes to Liam’s position at centre back. It’s blatantly obvious that we need reinforcements at the back if we have any ambitions of making strides in Europe, and a quality centre back is just one of a few positions that need tended too.

That doesn’t mean that Liam doesn’t have a future at the club as he’s a worthy addition to have in the squad. He’s more than earned his new deal so well done to him.

Here’s Liam’s media conference from earlier today and just after the club announced that he had signed a new four year deal.

  1. Would agree totally imo?
However such deals only really means that scales can no longer leave on the cheap and potentially been priced out of the market for any other Scottish club to look for his services now imo?
Still believe that the squad for next season will be potentially made up with 5CB within it?
Think lawal could well be included also especially with the 8 homegrown rule in play?
Also still believe that we require another CB all the same imo?
So could we potentially be looking at scales or rocki making up the 5?
Especially as I would be expecting CCV and Welsh to still be within our squad next season.
Regardless, we should be expecting a fairly new defensive set up next season, and hopefully it looks far more secure than this season, and our playing out from the back is of a far better standard than what’s been produced overall this season imo?

  2. There will be no change to the defence in this squad over the summer. Expect another few project wingers and strikers with an unproven goalie with a big price tag.
