The Scotland National Team have confirmed that Aston Villa have poached Celtic talent Aidan Borland. The 15-year-old was offered professional terms by Celtic but it appears that he has been the latest player to be tempted south.

Brian McLaughlin named his Scotland Men’s Under-17 squad for upcoming matches away to Switzerland and it was confirmed that Borland was attached to Villa. It is a disappointment but it appeared that the player had knocked back terms with Celtic in order to pursue pastures new.

Back in March, Football Insider revealed that Celtic had received a £1.3m offer for the player but this seems particularly high given his age.

Celtic have struggled to retain youth players in recent times due to the pull of English Premier League sides. Liam Morrison, Barry Hepburn and Ben Doak are recent examples of players that have departed for Bayern Munich and Liverpool respectively.

It is important that the club can continue to showcase their Academy as a vehicle towards first team progression at the football club, citing examples such as Kieran Tierney, Callum McGregor and even players like Jeremie Frimpong.
