Callum McGregor returns to the starting XI for Steve Clarke’s Scotland side for the second match of this World Cup qualifying triple header, away in Israel this evening. The next Celtic captain was somewhat surprisingly left on the substitutes bench for the 2-2 draw with Austria at Hampden on Thursday night.
It’s clear that Clarke is trying to utilise the entire Scotland squad in these matches so also getting a start tonight are the likes of Ryan Fraser and Che Adams who also came off the bench on Thursday to make his Scotland debut.
Dropping to the bench to accommodate the three changes to the Scotland side are Ryan Christie, Stuart Armstrong and Lyndon Dykes.
There are plenty of Celtic influences running through the side. Former Celtic keeper David Marshall is in goals, former Academy player Stephen O’Donnell plays at right back, the captain Andy Robertson is on the other side of the park and again he was at Celtic as a youth, Jack Hendry (who had a fine game against Austria) is a Celtic player currently out on loan at Oostende in Belgium, Kieran Tierney is now at Arsenal after his £25m transfer from Celtic, John McGinn is a Celtic nearly man but his family is steeped in the club’s tradition, and on the bench there are former Celts Craig Gordon and Stuart.Armstrong. Declan Gallagher is another former Celtic youth player who has hopes of winning a move beck to the Hoops this summer.
Game kicks off at 7.45pm. Nir Bitton will not feature after suffering a groin injury in training while former Celt Hatem Elhamed is sure to feature.
Both sides need a win, should be a decent game.
