Following tonight’s Champions League game at Ibrox several Napoli players entered the field of play to conduct a warm-down. This is standard practice for players, especially those that will likely fly straight after the game. It was the same last week when Real Madrid visited Paradise.
However, there were distateful scenes as Scotland’s Shame reared its ugly head as the Napoli players were targetted. This required Police and Stewards to intervene to avoid any escalation. It follows projectiles appearing to be thrown from the stands as the Napoli players celebrated. This was suggested by BBC Scotland too, who provided radio coverage for the game. Mathias Olivera appears to be the player in the video who is on the end of the shouts from the Broomloan Front, the section occupied close to the Union Bears.
Whilst many in the media will point to a couple of banners in Poland, the real story should be this thuggish behaviour that is an affront to Scottish football. The behaviour is a stark contrast to last weeks game between Celtic and Real Madrid where the visitors praised the stunning atmosphere but were received warmly after the match.
