Scott Brown makes surprising decision on former Celtic favourite

Scott Brown’s Ayr United have made the surprising decision to part ways with Aiden McGeady. The former Paradise favourite joined Ayr in 2023 but the move hasn’t quite worked out and since Broony has taken over, it appears that the club are taking a new direction.

As confirmed yesterday on Twitter/X, McGeady was confirmed as leaving Ayr by mutual agreement.

No doubt the wages will have been on the higher end for the Championship and the team and player believed that his talents were better utilised elsewhere.

McGeady, a product of Celtic’s youth system, left Paradise in 2010 for Spartak Moscow. The player made over 180 appearances for Celtic and has enjoyed spells with Everton, Preston North End and Sunderland. Now, the ex-£10m player is looking for another club before he looks to hang his boots up.

Despite McGeady’s best days being behind him when he joined Ayr, he was seen as an astute signing by The Honest Men. The move also allowed McGeady to be involved in a role working within the football operations of the Championship club.
