Celtic legend Scott Brown has extended his deal to remain as Fleetwood Town manager. The 38-year-old penned a two-year deal as he committed his future to The Cod Army.

In a week of turbulence with the League One side, Brown’s extension is a stabilising factor as they prepare for the new season.

Brown rejected the chance to remain at Celtic in order to take up a player-coach role under his pal, Stephen Glass. However, following the sacking of Glass and subsequent replacement Jim Goodwin informing Brown that his coaching opportunities would be limited, he made the decision to walk away from the North East.

It was a perhaps surprising move when Brown was announced as the manager of Fleetwood Town. After a slow start, Brown put his coaching badges to good use sealing a mid-table finish as well as the club’s best ever FA Cup run. The opportunity in League One allows Brown to build up experience outwith the glare of Scottish football potentially with a long-term view to seal the Celtic job one day.

The midfielder bowed out at Celtic after 620 appearances, 46 goals and 22 trophies in the Green and White. The opportunity to continue what he’s started at Fleetwood.
