PARTICK THISTLE manager Ian McCall has accused Kris Ajer of choosing when to play at his best following an astonishingly poor run for the Scottish Champions. The Celtic defence have conceded 23 goals in 11 games but McCall says that Ajer’s outstanding performance against Milan in October was a bad signal for Neil Lennon as it looked as if he was working his ticket.
Ajer was heavily linked with a move to Milan in the summer transfer window but no move transpired. McCall, who played for Rangers, said that the 22-year-old was the best player on the pitch in that game, which looks as if he was using it as an audition for the Italian side.
Speaking to the BBC Scottish Football podcast, McCall rates Ajer very highly but he was suspicious of the Norwegian turning out a high level of performance and not follow them up in recent weeks.
“I happen to think – and a lot of people don’t – that he is potentially a top class player.
“But the one thing that I thought was a little bit off was I watched him play against AC Milan at Celtic Park and I thought he was the best player on the park.
“I thought he was absolutely outstanding and it looked like he was really up for that game and perhaps that was a bad signal.”
Milan are top of the Serie A whilst Celtic are eleven points behind Rangers – with just two wins in their last eleven. Neil Lennon needs a reaction from his side following the Europa League and League Cup exit.
