SCOTTY SINCLAIR was at the centre of another controversy involving Motherwell this afternoon. The Englishman came on as a late substitute in the game and played down the left hand side, nearest the Motherwell casuals who had rounded booed the Celtic man when he replaced Olivier Ntcham in the closing stages of a match that Celtic won 5-2.
The Motherwell fans love to hate Sinclair, believing he dived to win a penalty in the Betfred Cup Final in 2017, so the Celtic winger was always going to get stick going to Fir Park.
However it seems that the real trouble happened a half an hour after the match and that the incident involved not a Motherwell fan but an Employee of the Lanarkshire club.
Radio pundit, and Motherwell fan Gordon Dalziel witnessed the incident and reported as follows, on the Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard programme.
“I’ve never witnessed anything like that. The two guys were ready to go for each other.
“Scott Sinclair wouldn’t let it go – I’m not sure what’s upset him,” Dalziel stated.
He subsequently added, “They were right up at each other. “I thought,’This is going to kick off.'”
This tweet above could be the first photograph of the incident.
And apparently the Motherwell Chief Executive, who likes to be as open and transparent on social media as possible (remember the tweets about the various bids for David Turnbull a few months back), had to separate his employee, apparently a groundsman, from the Celtic player.
Sinclair thought that his time as a Celtic player was coming to a close earlier this week when after training with the squad at Celtic Park before the party headed to the airport to board the flight to Cluj, the Englishman was left behind amid interest in him from down south.
Nothing materialised though and he was back in the Celtic squad today.
David Turnbull was at the game today, and would have been impressed by the free-flowing side that he’s likely to join perhaps in the January transfer window.
It will be interesting what Alan Burrows has to say on Twitter about this.
