The Coronavirus outbreak has curtailed the 2019/20 season with the conclusion of the league appearing to be up in the air. As panic and confusion spread through the country, seven Celtic players will be anxiously waiting to hear if their contracts will be extended or if they will be released at the end of their deals.
In goals, Craig Gordon is approaching the end of his time at Celtic. Signed in 2014 as Fraser Forster neared a move to the English Premier League, Gordon became a mainstay in nets for the Scottish Champions. The 37-year-old has been an integral player over the last six seasons, despite losing his place in the side to the returning Forster and Scott Bain.
Verdict – Go.
Fraser Forster returned to Celtic this summer on a season-long loan from Southampton. Whilst it is expected that Celtic will try and get a deal done to sign the 32-year-old, the uncertainty that COVID-19 has brought means that Forster may have played his last game for the Scottish Champions. The English ‘keeper has been majorly impressive since returning to Celtic and hopefully a deal can get done.
Verdict – Stay.
Another loanee from Southampton that may have played his last game for Celtic is Moi Elyounoussi. The Norwegian winger joined and has impressed when he’s been fit but a foot injury kept him out for two months. Southampton could demand a large fee for the former £16m man but whether Celtic would be keen to get a deal remains to be seen.
Verdict – Stay.
Celtic’s versatile Jonny Hayes is another one that waits to see what his future holds. Hayes has been a constant performer when called upon and Neil Lennon appears to trust him but with Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor vying for the left back berth, Hayes might be wanting to head for regular football elsewhere.
Verdict – Stay.
22-year-old Calvin Miller is another that approaches the end of his deal at Celtic. Spells at Dundee and Ayr United have given Miller game time but with five games since breaking through in 2016 appear to indicate Miller will leave the club.
Verdict – Go.
Manchester City starlet Daniel Arzani was signed on the back of the 2018 World Cup, he made his long awaited debut at Dens Park on Halloween and ruptured his ACL. Two appearances in two years for the first team show that he’ll be headed back to Man City after a poor loan spell where the Australian spent most of the time being either injured or in the reserves.
Verdict – Go.
Celtic went into the summer transfer window with no right backs and came out of it with three. Moritz Bauer has become the third choice at right back following his loan move from Stoke. He will leave the club at the end of his contract after failing to really impress.
Verdict – GO.
