Aberdeen beat Rangers 1-0 at Hampden to reach the Betfred Cup Final in December against holders Celtic who took care of league leaders Hearts at Murrayfield earlier today.

It’s fair to say that only Celtic shone today. Hearts were awful while both Rangers and Aberdeen were pretty rotten in what was a poor quality encounter at Hampden.

Steven Gerrard side had most of the possession but failed to threaten Joe Lewis in the Aberdeen goal. Lewis Ferguson, steeped in the Rangers tradition, rose from a corner in the closing stages to head Aberdeen ahead.

Gary Mackay Steven looked the best footballer on the park. There was little on show today to make Cletic manager Brendan Rodgers lose any sleep at the thought of playing either of these sides.

Rangers were very poor and a bang average Aberdeen side took advantage.

The double treble is very much on…
