Short memories on their previous title challenges, Brendan delivers at Ibrox

First title race in years?..Selective amnesia again!

Sunday’s Glasgow Derby clash is being billed as a title decider. The Rangers win and they go top with a game in hand. Celtic win and they can go four points clear while dealing a psychological blow. A draw and it’s as you were.

Whatever the result, it certainly wont settle the outcome of the destination of the title with so many vital games still to play.  But it would be uncomfortable to find Celtic after a defeat needing a favour from elsewhere.  Even a draw makes them worry about having to take something from Celtic Park after the split.

There is no doubt Sunday’s game is a massive one, the biggest in the last year or two, but it’s being hyped up more than usual and heralded by some as the ‘biggest derby and first proper title race in a decade’ by the Scottish mainstream media and theRangers supporters, often they are one and the same.

By some I mean the Rangers supporters who seem to have developed selective amnesia yet again. It’s like the liquidation of 2012, put it to the back of their minds and it’s like it never happened.

But it did and luckily we are on hand to refresh their memory despite them wanting to forget it. We can also remind them of previous campaigns when the title has been too tight to call or been too close for comfort.

For example two seasons ago, we clinched the title with a game to spare, a season when we went to Ibrox at this time (two years ago yesterday) and only three points behind. A season in which we were still in second place at the beginning of February. We of course went top by beating the Rangers at Celtic Park.

Or what about six years ago when we went to Ibrox in March only six points in front, with a hyped up Ibrox support saying there was a title challenge? The very same game we got a man sent off while the game was even? The final outcome was of course a Celtic victory, but wasn’t that also a proper title race?

Yes Sunday is a big, big, game, but the biggest in a decade? Nope we’ve been here before and as the photo above from Beautiful Sunday shows, Brendan knows how to get the job done.
