Coronavirus is taking its toll across Scottish football as the uncertainty surrounding fixtures and financial solvency arising from the shutdown. Motherwell have decided that the best way to protect their potential income stream through player sales is to make sure that they are fit and ready to pass a medical should it come around.

The Well sold James Scott to Hull in January, which Alan Burrows confirmed has kept the club in a stable financial position but they may need to capitalise on their prize asset, David Turnbull this coming summer.

Turnbull, who was close to joining Celtic last summer, will undergo an operation to remove the pins in his knees following the operation that kept him out the game for over six months.

Burrows said, as reported by the Daily Record, that the move was to get him ready for pre-season, but it could be speculated that the Well are making sure that if they need to sell Turnbull, there will be no issues.

“David had two steel pins inserted when he had knee surgery last year. It was always going to require a minor operation to take them out.

“With no games scheduled for the foreseeable future, he’s gone under the knife now. It will take him three or four weeks to recover.

“If we’d waited until May, that could have impacted on his pre-season training. Now it won’t.”

Turnbull signed a deal last month after his comeback to first team football which will take him to 2022 and secures the investment by the club in the player.
