Ange Postecoglou has expressed his delight as Celtic announced the signing of Benjamin Siegrist on a free transfer from Dundee United. The manager is quietly doing his business behind the scenes and Siegrist is the second transfer of the summer, following Cameron Carter-Vickers’s £6m move from Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking to the Official Celtic website, Postecoglou praised the qualities that Siegrist would bring to the table as he joins as Joe Hart’s deputy.
“I am really pleased to welcome Ben to Celtic and we look forward to working with him. I have had really positive discussions with him.
“I know he is hugely enthusiastic about this opportunity and also that he is someone who will add real competition to our goalkeeping position.
‘We all saw last season the ability that Ben has, as time and again he delivered fantastic performances.’
“He is a really talented keeper with the ambition to always work, to develop himself further and to achieve success and I think in signing Ben we have made a very important addition to our squad.”
The goalkeeper has been a constant source of frustration for Celtic in recent seasons providing excellent displays in goals for United. The 30-year-old has signed a four-year deal and will wear the No.31 jersey for Celtic. he will act as Hart’s deputy and hope to make a few appearances across the course of the season. Scott Bain, whom Ange is a fan of, will likely act as the club’s third-choice goalkeeper following Vasilis Barkas’ departure to Utrecht on a season-long loan.
