This September, you can learn more about Celtic’s history and mark a significant anniversary in the life of the club’s founder.
Brother Walfrid is famously the father of Celtic. September 2024 is 160 years since Walfrid’s ‘birth’.
Andrew Kerins was born in 1840 in Sligo in Ireland. He soon experienced the worst of poverty as Ireland went through ‘An Gorta Mor’ (the ‘Great Hunger’). In September 1864, Kerins was ‘clothed’ and joined the Marist Brothers, becoming Brother Walfrid.
To mark this anniversary, you can attend a FREE one-off walking tour on Sunday 8th September, three days ahead of the 160th anniversary of this happening.
This will tell the story of Walfrid’s life, and how he influenced Celtic. It will visit various sites in Glasgow that are central to Walfrid and the Bhoys’ story.
The details are:
Sunday 8th September
Start: 12 noon (City Centre)
End: 3pm (Celtic Park)
