Sky Sports have confirmed that Brendan Rodgers’ sensational return to Celtic is set to be announced this week. The Irishman will succeed Ange Postecoglou, who left for Spurs earlier this month, following discussions with the club in recent weeks.
In a report, Sky Sports state that the club have agreed to back Rodgers in the transfer market as he is set to sign a long-term contract with Rodgers wanting to compete at a European stage.
The 50-year-old was sounded out about a possible return by Dermot Desmond before agreeing to talks with the club. Chief Exec Michael Nicholson and CFO Chris McKay flew to Spain to present Rodgers with a vision for the club, something that is believed to have appealed to Rodgers.
Talks accelerated with both parties keen to secure a return for Rodgers. The Celtic supporter growing up was seemingly conscious of how he may be received given the terms of his exit in February 2019; however, it has been clear that the supporters would celebrate Rodgers’ return given his pedigree as a coach.
The Invincible-Treble winning manager had been set to take an extended absence from football following the departure from Leicester City in April but the opportunity to return to Celtic was too great for Rodgers.
