Sky Sports reporter confirms Celtic in talks for £9m-rated midfielder

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph has confirmed that Celtic are in talks with Augsburg over a deal for Arne Engels. The midfielder has been touted as a replacement for Matt O’Riley, who is set to complete a £30m move to Brighton.

Taking to Twitter/X, Joseph said that the Scottish Champions are in talks over a deal and that the Belgian is keen to make the move to Paradise.

The 20-year-old is believed to be valued at £9m, which would represent a significant outlay to Celtic but it would mean the club were serious about pushing into the next phase of player recruitment.

Celtic have signed Paulo Bernardo on a permanent basis earlier this summer but the manager stated that he wanted at least one more midfielder in. With O’Riley departing, Rodgers admitted he will need to get two in.

LAFC’s Mateusz Bogusz is another target for the club. The Polish midfielder will face Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup Final on Sunday before a move to Celtic comes into fruition.

  1. It has taken a ridiculous length of time just to get ourselves finally at the identification process for the midfield players required?
Hasn’t left ourselves that much time to actually get these deals done and finalised, so putting ourselves under huge pressure to get these potential deals completed?
Would like to think that a fairly high degree of certainty is actually attached to these deals, but can never be overly confident either, with the way we continue to operate?
However if they are concluded, and they are added to Calmac, Hatate and Paulo, with iwata as cover for calmac?
Could even potentially add McGowan still, and loan out Holm?
With Turley as another young prospect also?
Could well mean that our midfield areas are well sorted out, not just for this season but beyond also?
Sounds a very exciting prospect in the making, if we can actually get these deals finalised?
The prolonged wait, could be very beneficial to ourselves still, even if we still remain at fingers crossed stage at present?
