Sky Sports have been at it again, showing their usual contempt for the game in this country. The Sports channel which is owned by the Murdoch Empire has never been fully committed to the Scottish Premiership, and they continually show themselves to be ignorant and insensitive towards the product.
The scheduling times are a joke and we continually dance to their tune in this respect. Of course ‘when you take the King’s shilling, you are beholden to the Crown’ as the saying goes. Stuart Cosgrove pointed this out about Scottish football, remarking that if you make deal with the Devil, don’t be shocked when he comes for your soul as payment. But there seems to be just no end to the payment we give as reciprocation for the paltry, Dickensian deal we were given to begin with.
Not content with seeing the supporters used and abused, the governing bodies and every board of directors involved within the Scottish top-flight decided to sell the family silver – the full shabang – for years into the future. This newest one will run until the dreaded year of 2029, with no respite in sight for those loyal fans whose only crime is in supporting their team.
This most recent faux pas is comedy gold though, as one St Johnstone supporter pointed out online, via social media site X. The broadcaster had superimposed the face of Craig Levein onto (the now sacked) Steven McLean’s body. It was shown as the graphics came onto the screen ahead of kick-off between Celtic and St Johnstone this afternoon in Perth and is another sad, yet still hysterical indictment of the poor coverage the game receives from Sky Sports.
Beggars belief…
