ST MIRREN rocked Scottish football last night as they confirmed that a second player had tested positive for COVID-19. The Paisley side had already been dealt a blow in the form of goalie Jak Alnwick testing positive for the deadly disease; however, a second case was confirmed in an official statement from the club.

There are fresh doubts in whether Saturday’s match with Hibernian will go ahead as a result of this news as well as Celtic’s clash with the Buddies. The game was originally shelved after Bolingoli’s decision to take an impromptu trip to Spain and rescheduled for this coming Wednesday (16th) and the games are expected to go ahead as normal, despite calls to postpone the games.

The Scottish footballing authorities have enforced strict protocols so that positive tests are picked up on and isolation is followed up. However, the most poignant example is Paris Saint-Germain, who had seven players test positive but French authorities determined that as the protocols had been followed so stringently, the game would go ahead as planned with those players forced to miss out for at least two weeks.

The depleted Champions League finalists were without Kylian Mbappe, Brazil forward Neymar, compatriot Marquinhos and Argentina internationals Angel di Maria and Mauro Icardi. This led to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lens and should serve as an example of what should happen if the correct procedures are followed and players still test positive – they are reprimanded while their team losses out on the pitch.
