Engels and Bogusz would be great, but will we land both? I’m sceptical that we will…

Celtic are a reportedly in talks with FC Augsburg about signing Belgian under 21 international Arne Engels. The club were credited with an interest in the highly rated 20 year old midfielder a couple of weeks ago, but now it seems that interest has ramped up as talks are now said to have taken place.

The player won’t come cheap though with the Bundesliga side valuation of the player said to be a massive £9 million. If the club are prepared to pay that then great, it would equal the current transfer record of £9 million which was the amount we parted with to sign Odsonne Edouard back in 2018.

Although that fee could also be topped by the recent arrival of Adam Idah with a reputed £9.5 million being paid for the Irishman once certain conditions are met.

Another player the club have been heavily linked with is Polish midfielder Mateusz Bogusz who is currently playing for LAFC in the MLS. Talks were said to have taken place last week but things have seemed to have cooled a little, although reporters suggest they will resume after the MLS side play Columbus in the league’s cup final later this evening.

Bogusz like Engles would cost a big fee with £8 million the figure being banded around. If we do indeed sign both players that would be a whopping £17 million outlay on both players.

Don’t get me wrong I’d be delighted, but I’m sceptical that our club’s Board will part with such a pricey sum, but with their history can you blame me? It looks to me like we’l get one or the other when the Celtic support would see signing both as a clear signal that the manager is at last being properly backed.
