Former Celtic duo Neil Lennon and Chris Sutton were due to be on punditry duty for the Europa League games involving Celtic and Rangers. Rangers hosted Lyon in the later kick-off whilst Ange Postecoglou’s side were in Seville to face Real Betis. However, Rangers deemed the pair to be a security risk and blocked their entry, meaning BT Sport had to scramble to get alternative arrangements put together.
Now, Sutton and, his colleague, Ally McCoist have blasted the decision to block their entry and both hope it will be remedied soon.
McCoist and Sutton are two of Scottish football’s best pundits. The pair were excellent players in their day but they understand the frustrations and humour of the supporters, knowing when they can take a dig and sometimes bite their tongues.
Rangers made the decision to slash Celtic’s allocation in 2018, something that Celtic reciprocated in turn. However, in the opener of this season, there were no Celtic fans at the game. The mentality at Ibrox appears to be to pander to the minority at Ibrox and it embarrasses Scottish football.
