Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has suggested that the Scottish Champions could be a potential destination for Caoimhim Kelleher. The Liverpool goalkeeper has been successfully deputising to Brazilian stopper Allison, who is injured.

Sutton told ‘It’s All Kicking Off’ podcast last week that he’d like to see Kelleher move to Celtic in the summer if Kasper Schmeichel moves on.

“I mean, he could move anywhere, couldn’t he, really?

“He’s the best back-up keeper, I think, I’ve ever seen in the Premier League. Celtic. That won’t happen at Celtic, but because of his Irish roots, Celtic.

“Well, after Kasper goes, if he goes, not that I hope he goes at the end of the season, he may stay.”

Celtic had been listed as a potential destination for Kelleher during the summer but Liverpool reportedly set a £20m transfer price for the Irishman, which was unrealistic for Celtic. The club moved to sign experiencedSchmeichel as well as Vini Sinisalo from Aston Villa as they prepare for the future.

There had been increased speculation that the player would move on this summer with Liverpool’s scouts look at bringing in a replacement for Kelleher to work as understudy to Allison. However, as the Brazilian will be joined with Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is expected to become the club’s No.1.
