Celtic FC Women have been drawn against Hearts, Partick Thistle and St Johnstone in the SWPL Cup Group stages. Two sides will qualify for the quarters finals from each of the four groups and you’d imagine that Fran Alonso’s side should have no difficulty with these opponents.

Hearts were in the SWPL1 last season and were unable to achieve very much against the Hoops who hit double figures in the first meeting and comfortably won all three games. Partick Thistle narrowly missed out on promotion to the SWPL1 on Sunday, drawing 2-2 away at Dundee Utd. Both sides had to win and hope that Kilmarnock beat Hamilton but Accies (with a little help from Celtic loanees) secured the points in Ayrshire to secure the second promotion spot alongside SWPL2 Champions Aberdeen.

St Johnstone were mid-table in the SWPL2 last term so while the club is on a roll in terms of cup shocks, it’s surely unlikely in this instance although that second place in the group is perhaps an outside bet.
