Norwich City striker Sydney van Hooijdonk has opened up on the Celtic transfer speculation of last month that ended after the club decided to move for Adam Idah. van Hooijdonk was heavily linked in the January window as well as the previous summer and it just so happened that his move to Norwich City allowed Idah to make his switch to the Scottish Champions.
SVH, son of Pierre, said that he did not speak to Celtic this year but admitted that he is a fan of the club, even if he is glad that he made the move to Norwich.
“To be honest, I didn’t speak with Celtic this winter. You see a lot of things, but this winter, I didn’t speak with them. Yes, last summer, there was a bit,” van Hooijdonk told East Anglian outlet Pink Un.
“It is a lovely club, and I am a fan of them as well, but the Championship and a team that is fighting for the play-offs was really nice.
“This league is at a higher level than that league, so I’m really happy to be here.”
Since arriving at Carrow Road on a loan with an option to buy, the Dutchman is yet to score and has been limited to three sub appearances for David Wagner’s team.
Celtic have been offered van Hooijdonk on two occasions; however, they have passed up this option instead preferring to go after other targets. The decision to go for Idah has been vindicated with the player scoring five goals and assisting once in six appearances. Whilst the club have set no option to buy, if Idah continues impressing, Celtic will look to sign him on a permanent basis.
