Celtic have opened negotiations with Rennes for Brandon Soppy. The 19-year-old is extremely highly rated but transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Ange Postecoglou’s side have opened talks with the Ligue 1 side regarding the acquisition of the defender.

Rennes rejected a £3.5m bid for Soppy in January from AS Roma but it is expected that Celtic may need to pay up to £6m to land the attacking right back. The French U19 is being chased by a number of French teams but is perceived as being a talent for the future. Celtic would do well to sign him but given the track record of taking French talent and cultivating them, Soppy would see Celtic as an excellent opportunity.

Celtic are still looking to replace Jeremie Frimpong, who left for Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £11.5m back in January. Tony Ralston is the only natural right back at the club but it is clear that he is not up to the required standard to play. Soppy would be at the higher end of what Celtic would be looking at and if we were to sign him, it would be an excellent acquisition.
