Steve Clarke has decided to name five Celts in his team for tonight’s friendly against The Netherlands at the Estadio Algarve in Portugal. The Scotland boss hands a debut to Celtic’s Player of the Year and Scotland’s Young Player of the Year David Turnbull. The midfielder is joined by James Forrest, Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie and Jack Hendry as the Celts in the team for the war,-up ahead of the Euros.
In goals, former Celtic No.1 Craig Gordon begins with David Marshall left behind in Spain as Clarke and the SFA look to minimise COVID-19 exposure. Gordon was a standout for Hearts in the Championship after being allowed to leave Celtic last summer.
In defence, former Celt Kieran Tierney starts beside his ex-Parkhead teammate Jack Hendry and Liam Cooper in a back three. Liverpool’s Andy Robertson starts at left-wingback whilst Celtic’s James Forrest takes up the right-wingback berth.
In midfield, Celtic’s Callum McGregor and David Turnbull are joined by another ex-Celt in Stuart Armstrong. The latter duo will be looking to compete for the final position in Clarke’s midfield with John McGinn likely to be the other stick-on to start beside McGregor.
In attack, Lyndon Dykes starts with Ryan Christie playing off him. The duo were excellent away to Serbia as Scotland won on penalties to qualify.
