Team’s Up – Kasper Schmeichel makes Celtic debut against Man City

Brendan Rodgers has named his Celtic team for the friendly match against Manchester City. The Scottish Champions face the English Champions in Chapel Hill, North Carolina as preparations ramp up ahead of the start of the Premiership season. The manager has decided to name a strong side to face up against Pep Guardiola’s side.

In goals, Kasper Schmeichel is handed his debut as the Dane makes his bow with Celtic.

In defence, Tony Ralston starts at right back with Greg Taylor at left back alongside Liam Scales and Stephen Welsh as the central pairing.

In midfield, Callum McGregor starts at the base of the midfield. The Celtic skipper is joined by Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate.

In attack, Kyogo starts through the middle with Nicolas Kühn and Daizen Maeda in the wide areas.

On the bench: Sinisalo, Bain, Lagerbielke, Palma, Yang, Holm, Kobayashi, Kwon, Tomoki, Anderson, Lawal, Murray, Forrest, Dede, Donovan, Turley and M. Johnston.

There is a worry about the lack of transfer movement as the first team appears to require additional reinforcements – especially in the backline. Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers are still working their way back to fitness after playing in the Copa America. Fans will be eager for the club to get some key positions addressed and help improve the overall quality of the first team ahead of the kick off of the league campaign.
