Ten years on, Show Liquidation the Red Card Protest at Ibrox recalled

Rangers fans, fearful of liquidation ten years ago this week demonstrated against the prospect for 140 years of history being lost if the club failed to survive it’s financial crisis and instead headed into liquidation. These Rangers fans were under no illusions about the consequence of liquidation – it would mean the loss of 140 years of the club’s history.

So the Rangers Supporters Trust organised for the SPL game against St Mirren and they planned to hold up red cards on the 18th and 72nd minutes of the game. And a RST spokesman views that angry fans were prepared to fight to ensure their club did not die.

“On Saturday, at kick-off and in the 18th and 72nd minutes – to signify the year the club was formed, 1872 – fans will raise their red cards and voice their determination not to support anyone who is trying to drag the club down into liquidation.”

Hold on, hold on, it’s surely the holding company that owns the club the Rangers Supporters Trust spokesman should have been talking about?

“Rangers Football Club have survived good and the bad for 140 years, the vast majority being very successful for a club now known to be the most successful club in world football,” the RST spokesman, pictured below, claimed.

“It’s more than just a club. It’s a way of life for far too many people the world over to simply give it up o faceless moneymen with no love or interesting this famous fitbaw (sic) club.

“At a meeting on Monday night, the Rangers support agreed to fight tooth and nail against anyone or any group who seeks to liquidation the Gers. (Not the Holding Company, folks, THE GERS).

“Our message is simple: sink us and we will sink you! You won’t simply be allowed to reform (yes folks, you read that correctly, REFORM) a Newco and everything will be bright and rosy. Not a chance in hell.

“The Rangers fanbase united won’t allow it – no fans, no players, no sponsor, nothing. So this Saturday, we have arranged to allow every fan in Ibrox to show the administrators and any would-be liquidators the red card.

“The 50,000 red cards will form part of a display in protest at “the enemy” intent on finishing off The Rangers as we know it.”

So the consequence of liquidation according to the Rangers Supporters Trust means finishing off The Rangers as they knew it. Where was that guy from Edinburgh University who was in the papers at the weekend?  Bet he was there holding up his wee red card!

We know, they know and he knows!

  1. Ever wondered what you would have to write about if there was no Rangers? Every celtic fan media constantly drones on and on and on about Rangers.
And you believe they dont exist or something like that?? All you seem to do is talk about Rangers.

    Its embarrassing.

Try it. Try and write for at least 1 week without Rangers content. See if you can manage it.

    • So…..unlike your club you don’t believe there is an Old Firm? At least you have seen the light …………still an eejit though . There is nothing more embarrassing than the cheap cardboard cut out saying Old Firm you had the players run out under on Sunday, then to find it was in the bin on Monday. Lol.
