The Athletic link Kyogo with Man City, Fabrizio Romano confirms City’s interest

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that story we carried on The Celtic Star this morning regarding Manchester City’s interest in signing Celtic striker Kyogo in this transfer window, although the transfer expert seems to think that Kyogo is actually a winger!

READ THIS…Celtic striker Kyogo rumoured to be a target for Manchester City

The Kyogo move was scheduled to come after the conclusion of the English Champions attempt to bring Ilkay Gundogan back to the club and Romano has provided an update on this via his Substack account, stating:

“Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City is ON – here we go! A deal is now in place with the German midfielder to join on a contract valid until June 2025. Gundogan only left Man City for Barcelona last summer, but now an agreement has been reached for his return after positive talks in the last 48 hours and Pep Guardiola said yes to the move. Gündogan will leave Barça for FREE.”

With that out of the way it appears that City will now turn their attention to signing a striker with Kyogo apparently on a shortlist of TWO.

On this breaking transfer story, which appears to be much more than a rumour now, Fabrizio Romano reports on X as follows:

“Manchester City are considering a move for Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic, one of the options for winger position. Initial talks took place this week as @hughmurray1894 and @samlee reported. City want to get Ilkay Gündogan deal done as priority… and then decide on winger.”

And Sam Lee at The Athletic added this after The Celtic Star broke the news earlier this morning.

“Manchester City are considering a move for Celtic striker Kyogo. City’s immediate focus is on finalising Gundogan’s arrival, then they will make a final decision on whether to buy a striker.
Kyogo and one other player are on the final shortlist.”

Sports Journalist Kaustubh Pandey replied to this post from The Athletic reporter saying this:

“This Kyogo move to City feels scary. Having followed him from the early Ange era when he joined, he would be so lethal for a setup that has Haaland finishing with a first touch or a second touch. That is EXACTLY what Kyogo does with a higher work rate off the ball.”

It seems that there is plenty to be worried about on this one. Wonder who the other striker on the City shortlist is? If they do come in for Kyogo it is going to be very hard for Celtic to say no if the price is right of course.

Sky Sports are now reporting on the story too!
