Celtic drew Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donestk in the UEFA Champions League Group Stages earlier today. The Scottish Champions will also play Real Madrid and RB Leipzig as Ange Postecoglou’s side look to make their mark in Europe.
Whilst a lot of talk will be about the European Champions arriving in Glasgow’s East End, there will also be a lot of press surrounding the visitors from Ukraine.
The teams met at Paradise on the 28th of November 2007 as Gordon Strachan’s looked to take a step towards qualification for the Last 16. Although, the Hoops had to chase the game as Brandao put the visitors ahead within four minutes.
Celtic pushed and took the game to Shakhtar but weren’t able to get the equaliser until half time with Jiri Jarosik blasting in from an acute angle. The big forward’s howitzer surged a wild Celtic Park on for the second half but a second goal wasn’t forthcoming.
It looked as if the game would petter out with few chances but the supporters roared the team on and they got their reward when Massimo Donati, a first half sub, found himself on the end of an Aiden McGeady cutback to score for Celtic.
