Brendan Rodgers has said that he can see Scott Brown becoming the manager of Celtic in the future. The Irishman believes that his former captain has the ability to transfer his influence as a player on the park into the dugout as a coach, suggesting that he will be able to return to Celtic as a manager in the future.
Speaking to Mail Online (via the Record), Rodgers believes that Brown will be able to learn the ropes of coaching and management with Stephen Glass before likely entering the managerial scene himself in the future.
“There’s no doubt that Scott has the capacity to go back to Celtic one day and be manager of the club. He clearly wants to learn the ropes as a coach.
“It’s difficult to jump straight into management. He’ll go with Stephen at Aberdeen and together, they’ll learn about coaching. He’s going to a very good club.
“If he shows that same hunger and dedication that he had as a player, as a coach, he’ll be successful.
“If he can transfer the influence he has as a player on to his coaching, there’s definitely a pathway for Scott to go back and manage Celtic. He’s absolutely loved there.”
Brown won 22 trophies during a trophy-laden spell spanning fourteen years in Paradise. Brown and Glass have worked together before. The pair played together at Hibs before Brown completed a move to Celtic in 2007. In that time, Brown became one of Celtic’s most decorated player, became an Invincible Treble winner as well as racking up the most European appearances for a Celtic player. Brown is expected to make the transition into management and you cannot rule out seeing him in the Paradise dugout at some point, although it will be a shame to see the player leave after this season.
Rodgers helped rejuvenate Brown’s career when he arrived in Glasgow in 2016. The ex-Liverpool boss presided over Brown taking a deeper role but also winning POTY as Celtic won everything in Scotland.
