Training for Japanese national team began on 12 June . And I predicted that this morning’s newspapers would probably publish articles about some featured players, but my prediction was greatly wrong. Three major Japanese sports newspapers covered only Kyogo Furuhashi in a large scale. I got this information early in the morning, so I immediately went to buy all of them. This time, I don’t have enough time to share all of them, so I’m going to share all his latest interviews.
Kyogo looked back on this season and said as follows.
“The day before the game against Real Madrid in Champions League, I knew from the announcement that not being called up for the World Cup. The game against Real Madrid was an away game, so I understood that shouldn’t bring feelings of disappointment to Spain.
But I actually was frustrated. I was smiling in public, but it was a fake smile. When I got on our team bus to Madrid, my teammates encouraged me. “You can score goals for Celtic, and you will be fine for sure.”
The words of my teammates supported my heart. Another things that I can rely on was ‘Positive Note’. It’s my notebook that I write down in order to convert negative events into positive ones. It’s my daily routine to write it down on the positive note before taking a shower or going to bed every day since January last year.”

And based on that experience, he talked about his development this season as follows.
“After I found problems to improve myself, I just kept moving forward. By doing so, I was able to get the feeling of overcoming the wall at once. So now I think I had a good experience. I was able to move forward because I was able to become stronger and feel that I was trusted by more people.”
Kyogo said the following after finishing training for the Japanese national team, which was convened for the first time in nine months.
“I may have to play the role of false nine or post-play in Japanese national team. If I can play while maintaining good distance from my teammates on the pitch, I am convinced that I can break the opponent’s defence, no matter what opponent or in any narrow space.”
Kyogo said the following about playing in the World Cup, which will be held in three years.
“I guess I have a chance to play there. I definitely want to play in the next World Cup, and I want to be a player who can be game changer by playing so that I don’t miss even one scoring opportunity. I believe that if I can continue to make good results from now on, wonderful future awaits me. And I want to give back to people who support me by scoring goals.”
In mini-game in the training, he were checking the combination with them in the formation of Kyogo on the centre of front three, Mitoma on the left, Junya Ito on the right, and Kubo and Kamada behind them. Kyogo looked back on this mini-game and said as follows.
“Even if it’s a tight game with only narrow space, I could feel that something would happen when Ito and Mitoma hold the ball through today’s mini-game. I want to make use of my strengths so that I can score goals while making good use of the space.”
That’s all. The Japanese national team will have game against El Salvador from 7:10pm(JPT) on 15 June and game against Peru from 6:55pm(JPT) on 20 June. There is no doubt that Kyogo is the key man in building team for the next World Cup, so I hope he will have the opportunity to play as much as possible in any of the games.
