Oh is now looking like the real deal, so maybe we can stop the hysterics over Giorgos Giakoumakis being sold in January…
Oh grabbed a fine brace yesterday in the 6-0 thumping of Aberdeen. Two well taken goals I may add, they were both finishes of a clinical striker.
The South Korean has been harshly judged by a section of supporters during his short time at the club, mainly due to being constantly compared to the popular Giorgos Giakoumakis. The man he was brought in to replace.
Oh, whilst not exactly setting the heather on fire, has hardly been a disaster. Like Giakoumakis he’s had to settle for playing second fiddle to Kyogo and like the Greece international striker, he took some time to settle in at Celtic before going through the gears on match-day.
To his credit he’s been patient and bided his time and looks like he’s coming good with three goals in his three league games, and can count himself unlucky it wasn’t four after having a goal wrongly ruled out against Ross County.
I, like most supporters, rated Giakoumakis very highly indeed. He did us a decent turn and was a fine player in the Hoops, but he wanted to leave and he got his wish. Ange Postecolgou told us all along that he’d never prevent a player who wanted away from leaving and was true to his work in the case of Giakoumakis. Our ‘Big Greek God’ is gone so with his successor Oh making his mark, it’s time to move on.
I read somewhere that Oh has scored a goal on average every 84 minutes, that’s good stats for a player who rarely starts. His overall record now stands at 10 goals in 34 games, mostly coming off the bench. That’s very impressive indeed.
Oh looks like he’s a player high on confidence and Brendan Rodgers has clearly had a hand in that, refining his game and curbing the desperation to impress. Maybe now his critics can now cut him some slack and stop pining over a player who didn’t want to remain at Celtic.
