Tom Rogic’s best half of football for Australia

TOM ROGIC was outstanding today in Australia’s final match at the World Cup. in the intense heat at Sochi the Aussies were the better team throughout the match but had their pockets picked once in each half as they lost 2-0 to Peru.

Rogic with some of that magical footwork that we are so used to seeing, skipped past three of four defenders and got his shot away – it would have been a contender had it gone in. Then minutes later a through ball looked every inch the pass of the tournament so far and it deserved the goal that it so nearly got.

The Australian media were raving about the Celtic star’s performance.

“That was Tom Rogic’s best half of football for Australia,” David Basheer, the SBS commentator stated after the half-time interval.

Ex Rangers defender Craig Moore agreed, adding on Rogic’s performance: “He’s had some really good actions so far – he’s been releasing Behich and Kruse at will.”

Rogic, speaking to FourFourTwo Australia after today’s game wasn’t too upset at being eliminated at the Group Stage, despite playing so well.

“It’s been a great experience, it’s great to be here. The feeling right now is disappointment. I thought we’ve made great progress as a team, ultimately our goal was to progress to the next round and we weren’t able to do that. I’m sure we’ll all learn from it, we’ll be better from the experience.

“It’s been great to work with the management and stuff, it feels like they added to what we had built on and they took us a bit further. Unfortunately we just fell short at the end. I enjoyed working with Bert, he’s a good person. He has great experience.

“We probably had a few chances in the first half that we didn’t capitalise on. We’re finding it a little bit difficult to score goals and then we concede – it as a great strike – but that was their only attack in the first half and the next half was crucial and they got it. It kind of killed the game off.”

Rogic will now have a break before heading back to join up with Celtic in a few weeks time to help in the latter stages of the Champions League qualifiers.
