Top-five most expensive departures from Celtic and their songs

Celtic have had their fair share of players over the years that have come and gone from Celtic Park, with some making more of an impact than others. Courtesy of sourcing from BonusCodeBets, we’ve provided you with the top-five most expensive departures from Celtic. We’ve also added videos of their Celtic songs!

1. Jota – £24.9m

Jota is the record departure from Celtic in their history, with the winger leaving the club for a fee believed to be in the region of £24.9m, when he departed in favour of a move to Saudi Arabian side, Al-Ittihad. Jota scored 28 goals and provided 26 assists for Celtic in his two years with the club, which included a one-year loan spell.

The 24-year-old’s time with Al-Ittihad hasn’t been the most memorable of spells though, as Jota has been frozen out of the squad, which is far from ideal for a player who was absolutely adored in Glasgow.

2. Kieran Tierney – £23.2m

Tierney was another fans favourite in his time with Celtic, and made 170 appearances in total for the club, which included winning many league titles. He provided 37 assists from left-back with the Bhoys, and saw his fine form rewarded with a move to the Premier League with Arsenal in 2019 for a fee believed to be in the region of £23.2m.

Tierney had previously been a regular in the Arsenal starting XI, but has since found it tough to find minutes, so he’s currently on loan with Spanish side, Real Sociedad.

3. Moussa Dembele – £18.9m

Dembele arrived at Celtic in 2016, as he signed a four-year deal with the Bhoys after previously being on the books with Fulham. The forward caught the eye for all the right reasons, as he scored 51 goals and was on hand to provide 18 assists for his Celtic team-mates in what was a hugely impressive spell with the Scottish side.

Dembele moved to Lyon in 2018 for a fee of £18.9m, but is now playing his football in Saudi Arabia for Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq side.

4. Odsonne Edouard – £14m

Edouard’s record in front of goal for Celtic was nothing short of sensational, with the Frenchman scoring 87 goals in 179 appearances for the Bhoys. His good form didn’t go unnoticed though, as he was signed by Crystal Palace for a fee of £14m.

Edouard has found regular game time hard to find due to injury problems in recent years, but has scored 20 goals in 93 appearances, as the Eagles look to go from strength to strength in the Premier League.

5. Virgil van Dijk – £13.5m

Virgil van Dijk doesn’t need much of an introduction, with the Dutch international catching the eye for all the right reasons since leaving Celtic Park. The central defender spent two years with Celtic, after signing from Dutch outfit, Groningen. He certainly made an impact with the Scottish giants, as he earned a move to Liverpool, and it’s safe to say that van Dijk never looked back.

He’s gone on to establish himself as one of the best defenders in the world, and has played a key role in Liverpool’s success both domestically and in the Champions League in recent years. At the age of 32, he’ll still be worth a considerable amount of money nowadays, as he’s a player that is irreplaceable in the Liverpool defence.
