Sad news reaches us this evening as Johannes “Shuggy” Edvaldsson has reportedly passed away after a battle with COVID-19.

Edvaldsson was just 70 years age and the Icelandic man’s tragic passing is a loss felt by many Celtic fans.

After playing for Celtic, he joined Tulsa Roughnecks, but returned to Scotland, living in Linwood. In the meantime, Shuggy had played for Hannover, before concluding his career at Motherwell and a brief spell in his homeland at Throttur.

Jo signed for Celtic in 1975 and made 188 appearances before departing in 1980. The utility man made a decent contribution to the club and was a likable character. He is most fondly remembered for his role in the famous “Ten Men Won The League” season; whilst he also won another league title and three Scottish Cups with the club.

Incredibly, Edvaldsson was Celtic’s top scorer in 1977/78, with the bulk of his 36 goals for the club coming during that campaign before he reverted to a central midfield role.

RIP Shuggy, a man who made his mark on our great club.
