Transfer boost for Celtic as MLS winger turns down new contract and wants a move to Europe

Although MLS has a reputation as a league where veteran players go to for one last payday, they do have a good record for developing younger talent from Central and South America too.

Houston Dynamo winger Alberth Elis usually scores more than 10 goals a season despite playing out wide, and he’s an intriguing prospect at the age of 24.

A report from The Daily Record has claimed that Celtic failed with a £3m bid to sign him last season, but they might have another chance to make a move.

They point out that his contract is set to expire later this year, and he’s not signed the extension that’s been offered to him by Houston.

On top of that, they look at some recent quotes from Elis, and it’s clear he wants to try his luck in Europe:

“My dream to be able to go to Europe and this is my chance. This is a real opportunity and I think I will make the decision that I will leave Houston and give Europe a go.”

“There are a few teams we are already talking to in Europe and Houston have also made me a contract offer, a very good one too.”

They claim that Celtic would also face competition from Stoke City and Fenerbahce, while it was former Celtic favourite Emilio Izaguirre who said that Celtic were looking to sign him.

Perhaps he can have a word and convince him that a move to Glasgow would be the best thing for his career, and having a pacey winger who can score goals will always be positive.
