Transfer Latest – Celtic closing in on loan deal for Liverpool defender

Celtic are working on completing a loan deal for Liverpool defender, Nat Phillips to help solve our centre-back crisis. The Hoops have been on the lookout for a seasoned campaigner to help steer the young team through this bumpy patch we’re on at the minute until our regular starters have returned from injury.

Now The Times have issued a report saying that Brendan Rodgers has approached his old club with a view to bringing in one of their forgotten man in a loan deal. Phillips has been out of the picture for the Reds for a considerable amount of time now having been on various loan deals to Stuttgart and Bournemouth of late.

However, he was crucial for the 2019 Champions League winners when they faced an injury crisis of their own. He was a stalwart during that period when Virgil van Dijk was out of action for some time and so too was Joe Gomez. He’s got plenty of experience and pedigree and that’s what we need at this particular stage in Brendan Rodgers’ rebuild.

Here a hoping this deal goes through without a hitch or a delay and that Nat Phillips is available for selection for Ibrox on Sunday.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
