Celtic this afternoon confirmed the departure of midfielder Ewan Henderson, who joins Hibs on a 6 month loan deal and thereafter on a permanent contract. The club confirmed the transfer via the official Celtic website stating:
Midfielder, Ewan Henderson has joined Hibernian, initially on a six-month loan for the remainder of this season before joining the Easter Road side permanently at the end of the term.
The 21-year-old made his Celtic debut at the end of the 2017/18 season in a 0-0 home draw with Kilmarnock before loan spells at both Ross County and Dunfermline interspersed his 12 first-team games with the Hoops over the past five seasons.
His four starts in the 12 appearances all arrived in the 2018/19 term, and Henderson’s solitary Celtic goal proved to be crucial as it came just a minute after coming on in the recent 3-2 UEFA Europa League win over Spanish side, Real Betis.
Everyone at Celtic Park thanks Ewan for his time at the club and wishes him all the best with Hibernian.
Henderson’s highlight was clearly that goal against Real Betis in the Europa League last month and he can also claim a proud record of never playing in a game that Celtic lost! He appeared to be on his way to a good Celtic career under Brendan Rodgers but just like Anthony Ralston, he dropped out of things under Neil Lennon, although he did play in the Europa League match against Lille last season, after replacing Frimpong who was injured early in the match.
Surprisingly his loan spell at Ross County didn’t seem to work out but under Shaun Maloney, who coached Henderson during his spell at Celtic before leaving to join up with Roberto Martinez at the Belgium national team, he now has a manager who knows what he can do and likes what he sees. We wish Ewan all the best for his future career at Hibs.
