Former Celtic winger Marian Shved has concluded his transfer from Belgian side Mechelen to sign a five-year contract back in his homeland with Shakhtar Donetsk, Celtic’s Champions League opponents.

The 25-year-old made just three appearances for Celtic, scoring one goal, and while he looked a sensational player in those YouTube videos we all watched, his attitude was probably the worst of all the foreign signings in recent years. He made no effort to learn the language and eventually he was shipped out to Belgium on a loan move that eventually became permanent.

He had plenty of controversial moments at Mechelen, going AWOL, then establishing himself in the team before deciding not to play as he attempted to force through a move back to Ukraine to join their Champions who Celtic are due to play in the next few weeks.

Shved has made two international appearances for Ukraine and will be no doubt keen to be involved in the Champions League matches against his old club, where he might fancy showing us what we missed. There’s no doubt that he is a talented player but the baggage that comes with him meant he was never going to make it in Glasgow.

We wish him all the best regardless at Shakhtar, just not against us!
