Transfer Latest – Schlupp would be a good signing

Celtic has been linked with Crystal Palace’s Jeffrey Schlupp as the rumour mill goes into overdrive, moving towards the last three weeks of the summer transfer window…

31 year old German born Schlupp is a Ghanaian international and has a wealth of experience playing at the top level with Leicester City and Crystal Palace. Schlupp was also part of the Foxes squad who won the 2016 EPL title.

He’s described as a versatile player who’s comfortable playing in a variety of positions mainly left back, left wing, central midfield and centre forward. He’s regarded as being a dynamic type of player known for his speed and strength, very much a Brendan Rodgers type of player.

With left back being a position that is need of strengthening, there could be some substance to these rumours that’s already been reported by reliable sources, including the ‘in the know’ Stephen McGowan of the Scottish Mail, who incidentally was at Brendan Rodgers’ media conference yesterday, which was also attended by The Celtic Star, but did NOT ask about the Jeffrey Schlupp link.

The only obstacle would be that Schlupp will be 32 in December and is still under contract until next summer, but a fee of £3 million would most likely get any proposed deal over the line. That could prove to be money well spent as Schulpps versatility would benefit us greatly. He played 33 games for Crystal Palace last season so he’s still got what it takes to compete at the top level.

It’s a yes from me.

  1. A surprising name to be thrown into our potential targets imo?
Can totally understand possibly looking at a backup for Hatate within our squad.
Also provides cover for Taylor within the LB position also?
So a versatile squad player who would be a welcome addition to our squad imo?
Yet the potential stumbling block, could well be the current wages he is currently on?
Would have thought that it would be far higher than we would be prepared to pay regarding a contract?
With only a year left upon his current contract, would possibly rule out a loan deal also imo?
So with the money situation involved, wouldn’t say it’s the simplest of deals to try and conclude, especially at the speed we seem to work at in the negotiations process imo?
Could be a player that we could offer a 3 year contract to, but would he be interested in potential finishing his career with ourselves is a totally different story altogether?
Would be pleasantly surprised if we did manage to pull off such a deal, so wouldn’t be getting my hopes up to much imo?
