Transfer Update – Newcastle won’t stand in Martin Dubravka’s way following Celtic interest

As Celtic Shorts reported on early this morning, the Bhoys are taking a close look at Slovakian shot-stopper Martin Dubravka.

The 35-year-old was pretty much a mainstay in the Newcastle United side follwoing an injury to England goalkeeper Nick Pope and performed well all things considered. But with Eddie Howe looking to bring James Trafford to the club it seems that the man who had a loan spell at Manchester United last year is well down the pecking order now.

With that in mind, talkSPORT have updated the public in regard Dubravka’s employment and it is their understanding that the Toon won’t stand in the goalkeeper’s way if he wishes to seek pastures new this summer transfer window. It’s an evolving situation at this moment in time and one that the Hoops support will all be keeping a very close eye on to see how develops with the transfer window merely a few days away from opening now.

TRANSFER LATEST…Martin Dubravka could be a shrewd signing for Celtic

It’s no secret that the goalkeeping department needs a total revamp at the club this summer as Joe Hart is now hung up his gloves and Benjamin Seigrist reportedly keen on moving on after limited to no game time since joining the club in 2022. After arriving from Dundee United on a free after a string of solid performances in the Scottish Premiership, the Swiss player hasn’t really managed to work his way into either Ange Postecoglou or Brendan Rodgers’ thoughts.

There’s many a body that needs shifted from Lennoxtown this year as we have far too many players on the books who are doing nothing. It’s all adding to our wage bill and inhibiting us from spending money elsewhere on the team to make us more competitive in Europe. Seigrist should be joined by the likes of Mikey Johnston, Oh Hyeon-gyu, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Marco Tilio, Yuki Kobayashi, James McCarthy and Sead Hakšabanović.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
