UEFA set to confirm Celtic’s 9-in-a-row according to Belgrade Official

RED STAR BELGRADE are 11 points clear at the top of the Serbian Super Liga and are hoping Serb officials will follow the decisions of Belgium and Scotland and declare the league standings final.

Despite speculation that teams could be punished for having their league called prematurely, the Belgrade CEO, Zvezdan Terzic, has said that UEFA have no problems with leagues out with the ‘Big 5’ declaring the standings final.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, Terzic’s comments suggest that UEFA will rubber stamp Celtic’s 9th title in a row.

“There are three scenarios available to leagues like ours. The first is to hope we can eventually continue the season, the second is to declare it null and void and the third is to do what Scotland and Belgium have done and end the season now.

“We have been in constant contact with UEFA. Scotland and Belgium have argued their case with sound reason and I know UEFA will now accept it.

“Bigger leagues will insist on finishing their championships, but that is because their income is hugely reliant on TV money.

“Here, we need to align with the measures taken by Serbian FA and Serbian Government. The lack of available dates is not our fault.

“I wish we could be called the champions in the normal way, but it is not up to us.”

Whilst Celtic, and Red Star Belgrade, would rather win the title on the pitch surrounded by fans the unprecedented nature of the Coronavirus pandemic means that concessions have to be made. Celtic are entirely deserving of this title and whilst it may be bittersweet, it means that we have matched the great Jock Stein’s record.
