Conor McGregor is one of the most renowned names in UFC and the Irishman was doing a Twitter Q&A tonight to his 8.7m following. During the questions McGregor was asked about a comment he made regarding purchasing shares in Manchester United and the 32-year-old from Dublin said that he had been involved in a conversation to buy Dermot Desmond’s Celtic shareholding.

McGregor insists that he is interested in acquiring a sports team and that he believes his tenacious character could help improve the club by doing ‘big things’. Celtic need to appoint a new Director of Football and manager, all of which are far more important than discussing The Notorious’ credentials to be an owner.

The UFC superstar is a Celtic supporter and has previously worn a Celtic shirt during sparring ahead of a big fight. However, any suggestion that the fighter would buy Desmond’s shareholding is likely to be a gimmick but such is the season that Celtic are having that there are questions about whether Desmond is really interested in the happenings at Celtic Park.

Desmond was instrumental in bringing Dom McKay to the club as Chief Executive and it is imagined that Desmond is currently plotting the club’s rebuild behind the scenes with Lawwell, McKay and the rest of the board. Although, the support would likely feel more comfortable if the appointments of Director of Football and manager can be made as soon as possible with the new season nearing.
