Sky Sports aren’t always Celtic’s greatest fan and their pundits often talk down our stature and achievements in the game. However, that changed on Saturday as Paul Merson discussed the 9 In A Row on Sky Sports News.

Merson told the channel: “I watch Scottish football and the standard can be decent, then I watch it another time and there are some bad mistakes. But, I really have respect for Celtic being able to win 9 titles on the trot. People will say they’re not playing against anybody most weeks, but that’s disrespectful. They play teams every week and it’s their cup final against Celtic. Teams want to beat Celtic so badly. The Celtic players need to be on it every week and that’s what I admire. It’s phenomenal.”

The former Arsenal player’s words come as a welcome surprise. Indeed, alongside having the best team in the country for nine consecutive seasons, Celtic have also won the treble-treble and have lifted all of the last 11 trophies in Scottish football. It’s that consistency that really stands out, given that one off day can see the club eliminated from the cup.

These are historic times, sweeping up trophies, lifting trebles and being the best team in the country for almost a decade. Finally, someone in the Sky Sports studio acknowledges this.
