Celtic got 2024 off to a flying start next to Glasgow Airport as the Bhoys put the game beyond St Mirren in the first ten minutes of what was expected to be a very difficult night for Brendan Rodgers and his side in the final match before the winter break.

Daizen Maeda and Matt O’Riley both scored and a third by Greg Taylor in the second half wrapped up the first section of the season to leave Celtic eight points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

It should be noted that theRangers have two games in and and with their added matches in the Europa League they will be expecting to play four or maybe more games that Celtic and that fixture pile-up could prove decisive.

Celtic though go into the break on a high after recovering from that mid-December dip in form and with fresher legs after a much needed break we can expect to see a stronger looking side when the action resumes in three weeks. And we’ll have both Liel Abada and Reo Hatate – both of who featured last night in the 3-0 win against St Mirren – ready to make up for lost time this season.

With the January window now open we can also expect to see Brendan re-shape his squad with the outgoing being restricted to players deemed surplus to requirements and a few quality additions coming in the door as we look for a league and cup double.
