According to reports coming out of America, Celtic are interested in signing Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers. The speculation comes as Ange Postecoglou seeks to bolster his defensive options, particularly as Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt and Jonjoe Kenny have all returned to their parent clubs.
The Hoops recently launched a £7m bid for Sporting Lisbon’s French right back Valentin Rosier, whilst the club is also said to be keen on bringing left back Aaron Hickey to Parkhead from Bologna. It would, therefore, make sense to explore central defensive options and Carter-Vickers could fit the bill.
The American centre-back, 23, spent last season on loan at Bournemouth in the Championship. He made 26 appearances for the Cherries, but is unlikely to break into the side at his parent club, Tottenham Hotspur. With that in mind, combined with the fact that Spurs have loaned him out to six clubs recently (Sheffield Utd, Ipswich, Swansea, Stoke City, Luton Town, Bournemouth), the player may be enticed by the prospect of a long-term contract at a club where he can settle and enjoy regular playing time.
US journalist Larry Henry Jr took to Twitter last night, claiming that the Hoops are interested in signing the player and confirmed that any potential transfer would be a permanent one. If Celtic are to pursue Carter-Vickers, then they will need to fend off competition from Cardiff and Fulham, whilst reports in Bournemouth suggest that Newcastle were also among the leading suitors earlier this week.
